تواجه إندونيسيا أزمة حرائق غابات حادة، حيث أسفرت الجهود المبذولة لمكافحة النيران عن مصرع أربعة أفراد، مع تدمير مئات المنازل وإجبار العديد من السكان على النزوح.
حرائق واسعة النطاق
وفقاً لوكالة الأنباء الفرنسية، فقد أتى الحريق على أكثر من 900 ألف هكتار من الأراضي منذ بداية العام، حيث تفاقم الوضع بفعل تأثير “ظاهرة النينيو”، التي أدت إلى ظروف مناخية أكثر ملاءمة لاندلاع النيران.

Indonesia is facing its worst wildfire season in a decade, as an unusually strong El Niño has worsened drought and made fires harder to control. The haze comes from fires burning across forests and peatlands during an unusually severe dry season. Smoke has spread to neighbouring countries, and East Timor has closed schools for three days because of the pollution. To disperse the haze, Indonesian authorities have begun an experimental trial dropping 1.5 tonnes of dry ice from aircraft over South Sumatra. The method is intended to push haze in the lower atmosphere upward, but the wildfires remain the underlying problem.

في جزيرة “سومطرة”، قامت السلطات بإرسال نحو 60 ألف عنصر للمشاركة في عمليات إطفاء الحرائق، التي تسببت في تدمير حوالي 300 منزل وأجبرت العديد من السكان على البحث عن ملاذات آمنة.
تأثير الدخان على الدول المجاورة
أدت الحرائق إلى تكوّن ضباب دخاني كثيف في المناطق المتضررة، مما أسفر عن تسجيل العديد من حالات الإصابة بأمراض الجهاز التنفسي. كما امتدت آثار الحرائق إلى دول مجاورة مثل سنغافورة وماليزيا، حيث ارتفعت مستويات تلوث الهواء نتيجة الدخان المتصاعد.
